How do I determine the emission factor for electricity?
- Unlike for other CBAM goods, the emission factor for electricity is a standard value
- This standard value is the average for the electricity production with fossil fuels in the country of origin
- The standard value has been determined for 15 countries from which electricity is imported. These 15 countries are located around the EU's external border
- When you enter electricity as a CBAM good in your CBAM report, the standard value will automatically appear in the CBAM register
Important: you can only use a different emission factor for imported electricity when certain conditions are met. See Annex III, part D2 of the CBAM Transitional Regulation.
